LOCO New Zealand Ltd is a group of keen distance athletes who after many enjoyable years of running are now committed to making a difference by supporting Running Clubs and school teams, the Triathlon and Multisport community.
Christine and Pete Pfitzinger
Christine (nee Hughes) and Pete were married in 1984, and have two daughters Annika and Katrina. Christine competed in the 1500 meters in the 1987 and 1991 World Championships, and in the 3000 meters in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. She won 11 national track championships from 800 to 3000 meters, and won her last national 1500 meter championship at age 40. Christine set New Zealand national records in the 1500 meters (4:06.47) and mile (4:30.50)-her mile record still stands. She also enjoyed considerable success on the U.S. road racing circuit, and competed in the World Cross Country Championships 4 times.
Pete finished 11th in the 1984 Olympic Marathon in Los Angeles and 14th in the 1988 Olympic Marathon. He brings running shoe marketing experience to Loco NZ from his previous role as Running Shoe Product Manager for New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc., and additional footwear business experience from his role as Men's Footwear Brand Manager for The Timberland Company. Pete has over 20 years of coaching experience, and is on the High Performance Commission for Triathlon New Zealand. Pete is also a Senior Writer for Running Times Magazine and is the author of Advanced Marathoning and Road Racing for Serious Runners.
Chris Pilone
Chris is a former New Zealand representative distance runner who now works as a professional coach. Chris' stable of athletes includes several of New Zealand's best middle and long distance runners and a cluster of world class and developing triathletes.
As a runner, Chris was a 2:16 marathon runner and New Zealand World Cross Country representative. Chris owned a running shoe modification and resoling business in the 1980s and conservatively estimates that he has personally worn out 150 pairs of running shoes. Chris now competes as a veteran road cyclist, and his interest in cycling has helped complement his triathlon coaching.
Chris has coached many New Zealand Champions and New Zealand reps in distance running but is currently best known for being the coach of Olympic Triathlon Champion Hamish Carter.
Ken Moloney
Ken represented New Zealand in cross-country in the 1980s, and won several national cross-country, road and track titles. His 28:19 for 10,000 meters on the track in 1987 ranked him #46 in the world. Ken's marathon successes include 2:18 at Sacramento in 1986, and 5th at Rotterdam in 1987. Ken competed on the U.S. road racing circuit from 1986 through 1990. While living in the UK, Ken competed for Coventry Godiva Harriers (national road relay silver medalists 1997) and was a key member of the Shettleston Harriers team that won the Scottish National cross-country championships in 1998.Ken still competes regularly in national masters events. Ken and Lisa have two children Madeleine and Thomas aged 5 and 3.
Simon Blincoe
Simon began coaching distance athletes over 20 years ago, ranging from recreational marathoners to track and cross country National Champions and World Championship Representatives. Simon has been selected twice on New Zealand Track & Field Teams as Distance Coach.
After 35 marathons he has now turned cyclist and multisporter. A proud dad, he spends any free time following the sporting pursuits of his two boys - Adrian a National Track and Cross Country representative (and NCAA Champion at Villanova) and Nick a rugby player, has represented New Zealand Schools and was a member of New Zealand's World Champion Under 19 Team last year.
